While attending a recent Bring IT On event as a Realtime ambassador, I was asked by an IT teacher in a local Belfast technical college: “for junior developers wanting to get into JavaScript development, they are often confused/bewildered about the sheer number of different languages and frameworks available and their use cases, what are the best frameworks to learn?”.
As a junior software developer, learning a new framework can be both exciting and intimidating. With so many options available, it can be difficult to decide which one to focus on. Below are some of the JavaScript frameworks I think are most important to learn as a junior software developer.
React
React is a popular JavaScript library for building user interfaces. It’s considered one of the best frameworks for building dynamic and high-performance web apps. It’s developed and maintained by Meta (Facebook), has a large community of developers, and is used by companies such as Netflix, Airbnb, and Tesla. React’s simplicity, ease of use and versatility make it a good choice for junior devs.
Vue.js
Vue.js is a progressive JavaScript framework for building user interfaces (UI), known for its simplicity and flexibility. Vue.js is easy to learn and use but remains powerful. It has a growing community of developers and is used by companies like Alibaba and Xiaomi. Vue.js is a great option for junior devs looking to build interactive and responsive web apps.
Angular
Angular is a comprehensive JavaScript framework for building web apps. It’s developed and maintained by Google and is used by companies like Microsoft, Intel, and BMW. Angular is a powerful framework with a lot of features out of the box. It can be intimidating for junior developers, but it is a great investment in the long term. Angular is a great choice for junior developers looking to build complex web apps.
Node.js
Node.js is an open-source server environment used for building server-side applications. It has a vast community of developers and is known for its speed and scalability, making it a top choice for building real time web apps. It is used by large companies like PayPal, Twitter and Netflix. Node.js is a great option for junior devs looking to build server-side applications or become full-stack developers.
In conclusion, there are many great JavaScript frameworks to choose from, but the best one for you will depend on your goals and experience as a software developer. React, Vue.js, Angular, and Node.js are all excellent options to consider. No matter what framework you choose, it’s important to keep learning and expanding your skillset. As we say at Realtime, “the best candidates are those with the widest competencies”. So, if you’re thinking of a career in front-end development, starting with a high-demand and commonly used framework like React is an excellent place to start. However, mastering as many as you can, will give you the best options for your long-term career and exposure to well-paid roles that are in demand.
