Can you tell us a fun fact about yourself?

When I was 17 I saved my next-door neighbour from a house fire.

Can you describe your career journey so far?

Varied!! I started work in the hospitality sector working as a barman in a local pub. Then I moved into construction and spent some time in Australia working in the construction industry. On returning home I work in finance, working with Pramerica on their Mutual Funds team. After a couple of years here I went back to university to study law and returned to bar work while doing the degree. After graduation I worked in the legal sector for a few years while completing my LLM. After a few years doing that I decided to move into IR Recruitment and joined Realtime.

What is the best thing about working at Realtime?

The people. I work with an absolutely fantastic bunch of people.

What is one piece of career advice you could give?

Try to figure out (as early as possible) what you really enjoy doing. Once you have done this figure out a way to monetise your efforts. Enjoying (as much as possible) what you will spend most of your life doing is fundamental. Figuring this out as soon as possible means more time doing what you enjoy for a living as opposed to doing something you don’t care about so you can live. A side note, enjoyment doesn’t mean doing something that you are ecstatic about every day. I would describe it as finding something that gives you a sense of purpose and aligns with your fundamental values is where you will find true enjoyment.

How do you stay motivated?

Goal setting, assessment and evaluation. Consistent approach to setting and monitoring goals and performance. Also, returning to your ‘Why’ is extremely important when it comes to motivation. Reminding yourself why you are doing what you are doing. The ‘why’ will be different for everyone, but everyone needs to have one!
